About
The pure aldehyde form of citral — a citrus-scented fragrance ingredient listed in EU CosIng Annex III and requiring declaration as a fragrance allergen due to its sensitizing potential.
Neral (citral delta) is an unsaturated acyclic aldehyde responsible for the lemon scent in many essential oils. It appears in EU CosIng with restriction III/70, meaning it is regulated under Annex III of the Cosmetics Regulation due to its capacity for skin sensitization. Neral is one of two geochemically identical constituents of citral; the other is geranial. Under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, both must be declared in the ingredient list when present above 0.01% in leave-on products.
