About
Holy basil leaf and plant powder used as an exfoliant, absorbent, and skin conditioning agent. Rich in eugenol, rosmarinic acid, and apigenin, it offers antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits rooted in Ayurvedic tradition.
Ocimum tenuiflorum (holy basil, tulsi) powder is prepared from the whole plant. It contains volatile oils (eugenol, methyl eugenol, carvacrol), phenolic acids (rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid), and flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin). These compounds provide antioxidant activity by scavenging free radicals and anti-inflammatory effects via COX-2 and LOX pathway modulation. The powder has absorptive properties useful in oil-control formulations. Generally safe for topical use, though eugenol-rich essential oil fractions may cause contact sensitization in predisposed individuals.
