Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A specialty polycyclic epoxide fragrance for woody/ambery facets. Epoxide chemistry and thin public data justify a cautious score.
Octahydro-trimethylspiro-methanoazulene-6,2'-oxirane (CAS 22037-88-3) is a synthetic polycyclic spiro-epoxide used as a woody, ambery fragrance material. The epoxide group is a structural alert because small epoxides can be genotoxic; however, hindered cyclic epoxides typically show much lower reactivity and trace-level fragrance use limits exposure. Public toxicology literature is sparse; industry RIFM programs govern usage. Not listed on EU Annex II.
