About
Octamoxin (INN) and its salts is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Octamoxin is an INN-listed monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor antidepressant drug. MAO inhibitors prevent the breakdown of neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine, producing significant systemic pharmacological effects. As a pharmaceutical substance with serious drug interactions and side effects, it has absolutely no place in cosmetic formulations. EU cosmetics regulation explicitly prohibits pharmacologically active drug substances in cosmetic products.
Known concerns
- Pharmaceutical MAO inhibitor drug
- No cosmetic use is appropriate
