Octyl 2-butenoate (octyl crotonate) is an unsaturated ester of octanol and crotonic acid, used primarily as a fragrance ingredient with fruity-green odor characteristics. While crotonates have some structural similarity to sensitizing acrylates, octyl crotonate shows lower reactivity and limited EU restrictions. It is not listed in EU cosmetic regulation Annexes II or III.
