PEG-2 diisostearate is the diester of polyethylene glycol-2 with two molecules of isostearic acid (a branched C18 saturated fatty acid). Isostearic acid's branched structure makes it liquid at room temperature and gives the diester a lower pour point and different sensory profile compared to straight-chain fatty acid esters. It functions as an emulsifier and skin-conditioning agent in cosmetic formulations.
