About
An ethoxylated lauric acid amide used as a nonionic surfactant in cosmetics, with minor contamination concerns.
PEG-2 Lauramide is the polyethylene glycol (2 EO) amide of lauric acid (C12), used as a surfactant and viscosity-controlling agent. Like other ethoxylated ingredients, it may contain trace 1,4-dioxane, which EU SCCS guidelines require to be removed during manufacture. No specific EU cosmetic restriction applies to PEG-2 Lauramide itself. The lauric acid moiety is well-studied and of low concern.
Skin benefits
- Provides surfactant and cleansing properties
- Aids in foaming and emulsification
Known concerns
- Potential 1,4-dioxane contamination from ethoxylation (must be purified to SCCS-acceptable levels)
- May contribute to skin dryness or irritation in敏感皮肤 at high concentrations
