About
A dual-ethoxylated and propoxylated glyceryl stearate — a W/O emulsifier commonly used in rich body butters and cream formulations where it provides a thick, luxurious texture.
PEG-20-PPG-10 Glyceryl Stearate is a glyceryl monoester of stearic acid that has been both ethoxylated (~20 EO) and propoxylated (~10 PO). This dual alkoxylation modifies its hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB), making it suitable as a water-in-oil (W/O) emulsifier. The PPG modification increases its hydrophobic character compared to PEG-only glyceryl stearates. As with all ethoxylated ingredients, concerns exist around residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane. It is CosIng-listed with no specific EU restriction.
Skin benefits
- Emulsifying — enables stable W/O emulsions
- Provides rich, luxurious texture in body butters and creams
Known concerns
- Ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane trace contamination concerns
- PPG-10 may increase eye/mucous membrane irritation in some formulations
