PEG-26 JOJOBA ALCOHOL
Safety score · 0–100

Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A jojoba-derived emulsifying ingredient that helps create smooth, stable skincare emulsions.
PEG-26 jojoba alcohol is the ethoxylation product of jojoba fatty alcohols at an average of 26 moles ethylene oxide. Similar to other PEGylated ingredients, it carries potential contamination concerns with 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide. The EU SCCS has assessed ethoxylated surfactants with attention to these impurities. At lower EO numbers (like PEG-26), the hydrophobic character of jojoba is better preserved while still providing water solubility. Purification standards must be met to ensure cosmetic safety.
Skin benefits
- Jojoba-derived emollient base with good skin compatibility
- Effective solubilization of lipophilic ingredients in aqueous systems
- Lower EO degree preserves more of the natural jojoba character
Known concerns
- 1,4-dioxane as a potential impurity requiring strict analytical limits
- Ethylene oxide contamination concern in ethoxylated compounds
