About
A Polysorbate-type emulsifier derived from isostearic acid and ethoxylated sorbitan, used to create stable emulsions with a non-greasy skin feel.
PEG-5 Sorbitan Isostearate is an emulsifying agent and surfactant of the Polysorbate family, not restricted under EU cosmetics legislation. Isostearic acid is a branched-chain fatty acid that confers improved oxidative stability compared to linear-chain counterparts. The ingredient has been assessed for safety by international scientific committees and found suitable for use in cosmetic formulations. Residual 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation is the primary regulatory watchpoint for this ingredient class.
Skin benefits
- Provides stable emulsification across a range of pH
- Imparts a non-greasy, lightweight skin feel
Known concerns
- Potential trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation (EU-regulated impurity)
