PEG-7 TALLOW AMINE
Safety score · 0–100
Moderate
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A low-ethoxylate tallow amine surfactant. Functional but carries elevated nitrosamine and irritation concerns versus higher-PEG variants.
PEG-7 tallow amine (CAS 61791-26-2) is a polyethoxylated fatty amine from tallow with only 7 ethylene oxide units — the shortest of the common PEG-tallowamines. Lower ethoxylation means lower water solubility and higher inherent irritation potential (closer to the free amine). It still carries the structural concern of N-nitrosamine formation with nitrosating agents, plus PEG-process 1,4-dioxane residuals. CIR recommendations favor rinse-off use, purified raw materials, and nitrite-free formulations. Not suited for leave-on cosmetics without strong justification. Score is in Moderate/orange, reflecting the combined concerns and lower-grade functional profile.
