About
A polyethylene glycol-derived emulsifying surfactant with a well-established safety record in cosmetics, though it requires careful purification to minimise 1,4-dioxane residues.
PEG-8 Dicocoate is an ethoxylated coconut fatty acid ester used as an emulsifying surfactant. The EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC 1223/2009) does not list it in any annex, though PEGs must meet purity specifications to limit 1,4-dioxane (a suspected carcinogen) as per SCCS guidance. When adequately purified, it is considered safe for use in cosmetic emulsions at normal concentrations.
Function
Skin benefits

- Improves product texture and spreadability
Known concerns
