PEG-8 SOYAMINE
Safety score · 0–100
Moderate
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
An 8-mole ethoxylated soy fatty amine — similar profile to PEG-10 soyamine, with PEG and nitrosamine concerns.
PEG-8 soyamine is a soy-derived fatty secondary amine ethoxylated with roughly 8 moles of ethylene oxide. It functions as an emulsifier and conditioner. The lower PEG mole count gives slightly less water-solubility and slightly higher fatty-amine character than PEG-10/PEG-15 analogues. Residual 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide from the ethoxylation step, and nitrosamine formation potential from the secondary amine, are the key safety considerations — both controllable by a reputable manufacturer. CIR has reviewed the PEG-fatty amine family as safe as used under such controls.
Skin benefits
- Lower-mole ethoxylated soy-amine surfactant
- Emulsifier and cationic-adjacent conditioning agent
- Used as mildness additive in some hair and skin cleansers
Known concerns
- Residual 1,4-dioxane risk from PEG chain
- Potential trace nitrosamines from secondary-amine backbone
- Aquatic ecotoxicity and slow biodegradability
