About
A waxy polyol tetraester (pentaerythritol + 4 stearic acids) used as a structuring emollient in sticks and balms. CIR-supported safe.
Pentaerythrityl tetrastearate (CAS 115-83-3) is a tetraester of pentaerythritol and stearic acid. The four long saturated chains give it a wax-like character that is widely used to structure lipsticks, balms, and stick formulations and to add a soft, non-greasy emollient feel. CIR has reviewed the pentaerythrityl-ester family extensively as safe for cosmetic use. No CMR, endocrine, or significant GHS hazards reported; non-comedogenic at typical use levels (1-15%). Skin tolerance is generally excellent.
