Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A siloxane-based emollient and skin conditioning agent with a phenethyl substituent that provides a distinctive sensory profile; the phenyl group adds some hydrophobic character while maintaining the low surface tension of silicones.
Phenethyl Disiloxane is a siloxane polymer incorporating a phenethyl organic substituent. Siloxane polymers in general are permitted in EU cosmetic products and are considered low-toxicity. The phenethyl group enhances substantivity on skin. However, cyclic siloxane components may have environmental persistence concerns (vPvB classification for D5 and D6).
Skin benefits
- Provides smooth, non-greasy emollient feel on skin
- Enhances durability of cosmetic films due to phenyl-substituted siloxane substantivity
Known concerns
- Environmental concern: some siloxane components are vPvB classified in EU
- Environmental fate concerns for persistent siloxane ingredients
