Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A large acrylic polymer used to thicken or form films. The polymer itself does not penetrate skin; residual monomer control is the main safety lever.
Polyacrylate-56 is a numbered acrylic polymer used in cosmetics as a film former and/or rheology modifier. As with the broader polyacrylate family, CIR reviews have found these polymers generally safe at cosmetic concentrations when residual monomers (acrylic/methacrylic acid) are controlled. EU CosIng permits general use. Skin penetration is minimal owing to large molecular size. Environmental persistence of synthetic acrylic polymers is a developing regulatory conversation.
