POLYGLYCERYL-2 TETRASTEARATE
Safety score · 0–100
Good
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A heavier-duty emulsifier with four stearic acid chains on a short polyglycerin, offering strong thickening and barrier effects.
Polyglyceryl-2 Tetrastearate is the tetra-ester of polyglycerin-2 with stearic acid, meaning all 4 hydroxyl groups on the diglycerin backbone are esterified on average. This high substitution makes it more lipophilic than lower-substituted analogues and gives it excellent emollient and thickening properties. Functions primarily as an emulsifier and viscosity-increasing agent. The short polyglycerin chain keeps the molecule from being too heavy. No EU restrictions apply.
Skin benefits
- Strong barrier-forming
