About
A fluorinated silicone polymer that conditions hair and acts as an antifoam. The perfluoroalkyl groups put it in the PFAS family — extremely persistent in the environment and increasingly restricted by EU and US regulators in cosmetics.
Function
Skin benefits
- Antifoam in silicone formulations
- Conditions hair with smooth feel
- Effective at very low use levels
Known concerns
- Contains perfluoroalkyl (PFAS-related) groups — persistent, bioaccumulative environmental concern
- EU has progressively restricted PFAS in cosmetics under REACH/POP Regulation
- Long environmental half-life — not biodegradable
- Some PFAS class members linked to immune, thyroid and reproductive effects
