About
A sorbitol-derived, ethoxylated surfactant (sorbitan monooleate with ~5 EO) widely used to emulsify and stabilise cosmetic formulations at low concentrations.
Polysorbate 81 (sorbitan mono-9-octadecenoate, polyoxyethylene derivative) is a well-established nonionic surfactant used extensively in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. EU Regulation 1223/2009 lists Polysorbate 80 and related polysorbates in the positive inventory without restrictions; they are not subject to EU Annex III restrictions. They are considered safe for use in rinse-off and leave-on products at levels up to several percent.
