About
An ethoxylated and propoxylated C16-18 alcohol that acts as a surfactant and emulsifier in a wide range of personal care products.
PPG-2-Ceteareth-9 is a nonionic surfactant derived from C16-18 fatty alcohols with an average of 9 mol ethoxylation and 2 mol propoxylation. Based on structural similarity to other cetearyl ether surfactants assessed by the SCCS, it presents low toxicity. It is not listed in EU Annexes II or III. Ethoxylation reduces free alcohol content, and propoxylation adds hydrophobic character for balanced emulsification.
Skin benefits
- Provides stable emulsification in skin creams and lotions
- Improves texture and skin feel of formulations
Known concerns
- Possible mild skin irritation at high concentrations
- Potential trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation
