About
Lanolin wax that has been propoxylated and glycerated to make it more water-friendly — useful for emulsions but the chemical modification raises its score slightly compared to unmodified lanolin due to reduced sensitization potential.
PPG-5 Lanolin Wax Glyceride is the reaction product of lanolin wax (the wax fraction of wool grease) with 1,2,3-propanetriol (glycerol) and approximately 5 moles of propylene oxide (propoxylation) per molecule. Propoxylation adds polyether segments that increase hydrophilicity and water dispersibility compared to unmodified lanolin. The glyceride moiety acts as an esterification anchor. This ingredient functions as an emulsifier and skin-conditioning agent. Lanolin derivatives generally show lower sensitization rates than unmodified lanolin because the chemical processing removes low-molecular-weight sensitizing compounds. No GHS hazard statements apply to this derivative.
Skin benefits
- Water-dispersible emollient for emulsions
- Skin conditioning from lanolin fractions
- Lower sensitization profile than unmodified lanolin
