About
A nonionic surfactant made from ethoxylated and propoxylated 2-decyltetradecanol, used to blend oil and water phases in creams and lotions.
PPG-6-Decyltetradeceth-12 is a high-molecular-weight ethoxylated-propoxylated alcohol functioning as a nonionic surfactant and emulsifier. Similar to other alkyl ether surfactants, it has low acute toxicity. Not listed in EU Cosmetics Regulation Annexes II or III, but is subject to REACH registration requirements. The relatively high EO number reduces residual free ethylene oxide concern compared to lower-EO surfactants.
Skin benefits
- Effective emulsifier for stable cosmetic emulsions
Known concerns
- Mild skin and eye irritation possible at high concentrations
- Environmental concern for aquatic toxicity at high volumes
