About
The precursor to collagen — used in skincare to help boost skin firmness and hydration. It's the building block your body uses to make collagen naturally.
Procollagen is the soluble precursor form of collagen, the body's primary structural protein. In its native form, procollagen contains additional peptide extensions (propeptides) at both ends that are cleaved during collagen fibril assembly. In cosmetics, procollagen functions as a hair and skin conditioning agent. It may offer better skin penetration than mature collagen due to its smaller molecular weight and solubility. CosIng lists hair conditioning and skin conditioning functions. No GHS hazards or EU restrictions (the ozone-depletion ban notation is a database artifact). Sourcing may be animal-derived or recombinant.
