About
Sweet cherry seed powder — gentle, sustainable plant-based exfoliant rich in lipids.
Prunus avium (sweet cherry) seed powder is a finely milled stone byproduct used as a biodegradable exfoliant and emollient source. It provides fatty acids, phytosterols and tocopherols. Like other Prunus seeds, raw material contains trace amygdalin; toxicologically relevant only on ingestion of substantial quantities, not dermal exposure. No CIR monograph specific to this ingredient exists, but related Prunus seed powders (almond, apricot) have been reviewed as safe. It is a popular alternative to plastic microbeads.
Skin benefits
- Natural gentle exfoliant
- Provides fatty acids and phytosterols to skin
- Upcycled ingredient from fruit processing
Known concerns
- Prunus seeds contain trace amygdalin that hydrolyses to cyanide — dermal exposure negligible but a supplier QC point
- Mechanical scrubs may over-exfoliate sensitive skin
- Rare Prunus pollen allergy could cross-react
