Pullulan (CAS 9057-02-7; PubChem CID 439586) is a water-soluble polysaccharide produced by fermentation of the yeast Aureobasidium pullulans. In cosmetics it acts as a film former, binder, and viscosity modifier, producing a temporary tightening/smoothing effect on skin. It is also a recognized food and pharmaceutical excipient (e.g., pullulan capsules) with extensive oral-safety data. No GHS hazard classification is listed on PubChem. Not carcinogenic, mutagenic, or a known sensitizer; readily biodegradable and used at 0.1-5% in skincare.
