About
The aqueous distillate or extract from pomegranate (Punica granatum) peel — a polyphenol-rich, gently astringent botanical water.
Punica granatum peel water is the aqueous fraction obtained from pomegranate peel by distillation or aqueous extraction. It is used in cosmetics as a hydrating, conditioning, and mildly astringent vehicle, delivering small amounts of ellagitannins (punicalagins), polyphenols, and organic acids. Pomegranate has a long topical and food history with a generally benign safety profile; pomegranate proteins and tannins can rarely sensitise. There is no dedicated SCCS or CIR opinion on the peel water specifically, so evidence is moderate. EU CosIng allows the parent species without restriction.
