About
A composite of polyvinylpyrrolidone-coated montmorillonite clay used as a suspending agent and viscosity modifier that also provides mild oil-absorption properties.
PVP Montmorillonite is a surface-treated natural clay (montmorillonite, a smectite-type phyllosilicate) coated with polyvinylpyrrolidone polymer. Montmorillonite is a natural mineral permitted in cosmetic products. The PVP treatment modifies the clay's surface properties, improving its compatibility with organic phases in formulations. Neither montmorillonite nor PVP appears in EU Annex II or III restrictions. The substance is considered safe in cosmetic use, though inhalation exposure from powder forms should be avoided.
