About
A retinol-derivative ester combining retinol with shikimic acid via a glycolic linker. Aims to deliver retinoid action with less irritation. Same retinoid cautions apply.
Retinyl glycolyl shikimate is a hybrid ester of retinol (vitamin A) coupled through a glycolic-acid linker to shikimic acid. The design aims to deliver retinoid activity with improved stability and lower irritation than free retinol or retinyl palmitate. As a retinoid family member, it shares cautions: skin irritation (redness, peeling) at higher use levels, sun sensitivity, and EU Annex III caps on total vitamin-A activity in cosmetics (0.05% in body lotions, 0.3% in face/hand products as of 2025 SCCS-driven rule). Not recommended during pregnancy/breastfeeding without medical guidance. Compound-specific clinical and toxicology data are limited.
