Rheum rhaponticum (rhubarb) fruit water is listed in the EU CosIng database without specific restriction. However, rhubarb species contain oxalic acid (0.1–1% in leaves, lower in fruit) which can be a skin irritant at high concentrations. EU Regulation 1223/2009 does not list rhubarb fruit water in any annex requiring restriction, but formulators are advised to limit use concentrations to avoid irritation from organic acids.
