A vitamin B2 (riboflavin) derivative with antioxidant properties.
Riboflavin tetrabutyrate (riboflavin tetrabutanoate, CAS 752-56-7) is a tetraester of riboflavin (vitamin B2) with butyric acid, creating a lipophilic vitamin derivative that is more compatible with oil-phase cosmetic formulations than free riboflavin. Riboflavin is an essential vitamin with well-documented safety in both dietary and topical applications. As a cosmetic ingredient, it functions as a skin conditioning agent and antioxidant. Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, riboflavin and its derivatives are permitted without restriction. The butyrate esterification improves oil solubility while the riboflavin core retains its characteristic yellow color and antioxidant properties.
