About

Ricinoleamide Mipa is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Its specific function may vary between products. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

Ricinooleamide MIPA is the isopropanolamine salt/amide of ricinoleic acid, structurally similar to ricinooleamide MEA but with MIPA (isopropanolamine) instead of MEA. It functions as a nonionic surfactant, viscosity-controlling agent, and skin/hair conditioning agent. Ricinoleic acid is a hydroxylated fatty acid derived from castor oil with well-established safety in topical formulations. The MIPA variant has lower residual alkalinity compared to MEA variants, potentially reducing sensitization risk. Not listed in EU CosIng Annex II (banned) or Annex III (restricted). Castor oil derivatives are widely used in natural and conventional cosmetics with excellent tolerability.

Skin benefits

  • Conditions and softens skin and hair
  • Viscosity-controlling agent
  • Nonionic surfactant derived from renewable castor oil
  • Compatible with a wide range of cosmetic formulations

Known concerns

  • Generally well-tolerated with minimal concerns
  • As with all surfactants, may cause mild irritation at high concentrations
