About
Sucrose-solubilized calcium hydroxide — essentially a controlled form of lime for pH adjustment. Safe when neutralized; alkaline in raw form.
Saccharated lime is calcium hydroxide solubilized and stabilized in a sucrose-based solution. Historically used in pharmacy as a pH adjuster and mild caustic source, and in food and cosmetic manufacture for controlled alkalinity. It has a long use precedent. The alkaline nature of calcium hydroxide means the raw ingredient can irritate skin, eyes, and mucous membranes; in finished cosmetic products it must be neutralized and kept within tolerated pH ranges. Not typically used in leave-on cosmetic applications except in hair relaxers and similar controlled-alkaline formulations. No GHS hazards once neutralized at finished product pH.
