About

Soapberry fruit powder — a natural cleansing agent with gentle surfactant properties.

Sapindus mukorossi fruit powder contains triterpenoid saponins (sapindosides A and B) which are natural surfactants. Saponins can disrupt cell membranes and cause irritation to eyes and mucous membranes. Not specifically listed in EU Cosmetics Regulation Annexes; the related Sapindus saponaria is better documented. At cosmetic use levels, saponin content is generally tolerable.

Skin benefits

  • Natural surfactant for gentle cleansing
  • Saponin content creates lather without synthetic surfactants
  • Traditional natural detergent

Known concerns

  • Saponins can irritate mucous membranes and eyes
  • Potential contact dermatitis in sensitized individuals
  • Should not be used in lip or eye-area products at high concentrations
