About
Soapwort root powder — a traditional plant cleanser rich in natural saponins. Gentle but can sting eyes in rinse-off products.
Saponaria officinalis root powder (CAS 84775-97-3) is milled root of soapwort, a European plant historically used for washing delicate textiles and skin. The root contains 2-5% triterpenoid saponins (saponarioside, gypsogenin glycosides) that produce foam and mild cleansing. EU CosIng lists it with cleansing and skin-conditioning functions; no Annex II/III restrictions. CIR has not published a formal review. Saponins can cause eye irritation and mild mucosal irritation, so use is best limited to rinse-off products at modest concentrations.

- Natural saponins for mild cleansing
- Traditional use as gentle cleanser
- Biodegradable and plant-derived
Known concerns
