About
Silver Nitrate is a cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Silver nitrate (CAS 7761-88-8) is an inorganic silver salt historically used in cosmetic formulations for its antimicrobial properties and in anti-aging products. EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex III restricts its use to a maximum concentration of 4% in cosmetic products. Chronic topical use can cause argyria (irreversible blue-gray skin discoloration from silver deposition) and argyrosis (silver deposition in eyes). The nitrate component raises concerns about methemoglobinemia in infants. Silver nanoparticles in cosmetics are under ongoing safety review.
Skin benefits
