About

A water-soluble proteoglycan extracted from salmon or bovine cartilage. Acts much like high molecular weight hyaluronic acid — humectant film on skin. Well tolerated but animal-derived, so not vegan.

Skin benefits

  • Provides ECM-like hydration support
  • Skin-conditioning film former
  • Comparable safety profile to hyaluronic acid

Known concerns

  • Animal-derived (often salmon nasal cartilage) — not vegan
  • Possible protein sensitization in rare cases
  • Some products vary in molecular weight
