Good

Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.

A natural skin lipid that softens and protects the barrier. Very well tolerated; the only real downside is that the unhydrogenated form can oxidize, so squalane is often preferred.

Function

SKIN CONDITIONING - EMOLLIENTHAIR CONDITIONINGSOLVENT

Skin benefits

  • Skin-identical lipid emollient
  • Reinforces skin barrier
  • Light, non-greasy feel

Known concerns

  • Pure squalene oxidizes quickly and may go rancid
  • Most products use squalane (hydrogenated form) for stability
