Strychnine is a highly toxic alkaloid from Strychnos nux-vomica that acts as a competitive antagonist at glycine receptors in the spinal cord, causing violent muscular convulsions. The estimated lethal dose in humans is 30-120mg. It is absolutely prohibited in cosmetic products under EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex II. Hazard statements include H300, H310 (skin absorption), H372, H400, and H410.
