Almond-oil fatty acids esterified with polyglycerin-4 — a plant-derived mild emulsifier and emollient. Strong class safety data from CIR.

Sweet Almond Oil Polyglyceryl-4 Esters (CAS 1072006-19-9) is produced by transesterification of Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil with polyglycerin-4. It functions as a mild O/W emulsifier, surfactant, and emollient. The 2023 CIR review of polyglyceryl fatty acid esters concluded the class is safe in the present practices of use and concentration. Related polyglyceryl-4 esters (apricot, palm) tested non-irritant in reconstructed-epidermis assays. Structurally the ingredient is food-grade friendly; polyglyceryl fatty acid esters are allowed food additives (JECFA ADI 0–25 mg/kg for up to triglycerol). Primary caveat is tree-nut origin, which is a theoretical concern for severely almond-allergic consumers, though refined almond oil is typically protein-depleted.
