Tallow Dihydroxyethyl Betaine (CAS 70750-46-8) is an amphoteric surfactant with a betaine (zwitterionic) head group, a dihydroxyethyl nitrogen, and a tallow-derived long-chain alkyl group. Amphoteric betaines are well-known for mild cleansing, low eye sting, and compatibility with a wide range of surfactant systems. The class (including cocamidopropyl betaine and its relatives) has been extensively CIR-reviewed and is generally safe; rare but documented allergy cases in sensitive-patch-test series are tied to residual DMAPA impurities in some betaines. Tallow sourcing introduces a BSE/TSE supply-chain consideration. Typical use 1-10% in cleansers.
