Tetrahydro-6-nitroquinoxaline is a reduced quinoxaline derivative bearing a nitro substituent at the 6-position. Quinoxaline and its nitro-substituted derivatives are associated with mutagenic and carcinogenic potential via nitro-reduction to reactive oxygen species and DNA-adduct-forming intermediates. It is listed in EU Annex II/1240, prohibiting its use in cosmetic products in the EU. There are no approved cosmetic applications.
