About
A xanthine derivative (similar to caffeine) used in anti-cellulite and slimming cosmetic formulations for its lipolytic and bronchodilatory properties.
Theophylline is a methylxanthine alkaloid related to caffeine and theobromine. It is not restricted under EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 but has been subject to discussion regarding safe use levels in topical formulations. The ingredient is generally well tolerated topically but may cause mild irritation in sensitive individuals or at high concentrations.
