Thiodiglycol — a useful reducing agent in hair dyes, but also an OPCW Schedule 2 chemical, which imposes trade restrictions.
Thiodiglycol (CAS 111-48-8) is a thioether diol used in cosmetics primarily as a reducing and conditioning agent in oxidative hair colour systems and some skin conditioning formulations. Its classic regulatory flag is that it is listed on Schedule 2 of the OPCW Chemical Weapons Convention as a precursor to sulfur mustard, which imposes trade and reporting obligations on manufacturers and some jurisdictional limits on use. In cosmetic formulations at typical sub-percentage levels, acute toxicity is low and sensitisation is uncommon. Prior database score of 85 was too high given the regulatory classification; corrected to mid-yellow.
