About
A wax from the marine microalga Tisochrysis lutea — an emerging sustainable lipid source for balms and emollient-rich products.
Tisochrysis Lutea Wax is the lipid wax fraction from Tisochrysis lutea (formerly Isochrysis galbana T-iso), a haptophyte microalga cultivated for aquaculture feed and as a source of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. The wax portion contains long-chain fatty acid esters, phytosterols, and carotenoids (fucoxanthin, beta-carotene), giving structuring and antioxidant benefits. Cosmetic adoption is recent, driven by sustainability (bioreactor cultivation versus marine harvesting) and a clean fatty-acid profile. Toxicology is limited to aquaculture/feed safety data plus preliminary cosmetic trials; no red-flag signals, but formal CIR/SCCS reviews are not yet available.
