About
A water-soluble derivative of vitamin E created by ethoxylating natural tocopherol, used in skin care for its antioxidant properties.
Tocophereth-50 is an ethoxylated vitamin E derivative (tocopherol with approximately 50 mol ethylene oxide) functioning as an antioxidant and skin-conditioning agent. The ethoxylation converts fat-soluble tocopherol into a water-dispersible form suitable for aqueous cosmetic formulations. Vitamin E and its derivatives are extensively studied, and the ethoxylation does not significantly alter the safety profile. This ingredient is not restricted under EU Cosmetics Regulation and is considered safe at cosmetic use concentrations.
Skin benefits
- Antioxidant protection against free radical damage
- Moisturizing and skin-conditioning benefits
- May enhance stability of other cosmetic ingredients
Known concerns
- Generally very safe; very rare allergic reactions reported
