About

A fluorinated cyclic silicone. Great feel but fluorinated chemistry is increasingly scrutinised under PFAS restrictions — use with caution.

Trifluoropropyl cyclopentasiloxane (a D5-type cyclic silicone bearing trifluoropropyl substituents) is used in long-wear makeup and hair products for its fast spreading and unique gloss. It combines two families that face growing regulatory scrutiny: cyclosiloxanes (D4/D5 restricted in the EU for wash-off cosmetics since 2020) and fluorinated organics within the broader PFAS landscape. While this specific CAS is not yet individually restricted, the EU's universal PFAS proposal under REACH (2023) and the ongoing D5 restrictions make its future use uncertain. Low acute toxicity; environmental persistence is the dominant concern.
