A medium-chain triglyceride — glycerol esterified with three heptanoic (C7) fatty acids. Silky emollient with a light dry finish; FDA-approved as a rare-disease drug, very well characterized.
Triheptanoin (CAS 620-67-7, PubChem CID 69286) is the triester of glycerol with heptanoic acid. In cosmetics it serves as a lightweight emollient with a dry silky afterfeel, and as a carrier for lipophilic actives. It is also FDA-approved (Dojolvi) for long-chain fatty-acid oxidation disorders, giving it an unusually deep toxicology package. ECHA C&L notifications show H315 (skin irritation) at 37.9% of reporters and environmental H411; 62.1% do not classify it as hazardous. No CMR or endocrine concerns; not a common sensitizer. Used at 1–20% in emulsions, lip care and anhydrous sticks.
