About

Trioxymethylene (1,3,5-trioxan) is a cosmetic ingredient. Raw material may pose reproductive safety concerns. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

1,3,5-Trioxan (CAS 110-88-3) is the cyclic trimer of formaldehyde that can release formaldehyde upon decomposition. EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex III restricts its use to concentrations below 0.1% as a constituent of substances or mixtures. The compound carries hazard statements including H228 (flammable solid), H335 (may cause respiratory irritation), H360 (may damage fertility or unborn child), H361 (suspected reproductive toxicity), H370/H372 (organ toxicity), and H336 (CNS effects). Formaldehyde release concerns apply particularly to cosmetic products where it may cause contact dermatitis and is classified as a skin sensitizer.

  • Restricted to <0.1% in EU mixtures
  • Formaldehyde release concern
  • Reproductive toxicity (H360/H361)
  • Flammable solid (H228)
