About
Trisodium Copper Chlorin E6 is a cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Copper chlorin e6 is a chlorin (reduced porphyrin) complexed with sodium ions. Chlorins absorb strongly in the red region of visible light (~660 nm) and are used in photodynamic therapy. The copper centre reduces the photosensitising potential compared to free chlorins. Chlorophyll derivatives are permitted food and cosmetic colourants under EU law (E140, E141).
Skin benefits
- Potential photodynamic anti-acne activity
- Skin pigmentation/colourant applications
Known concerns
- Photosensitising potential requires protection against UVA exposure
- Copper accumulation with chronic use
