About
TRISTEARYL CITRATE is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Tristearyl citrate is the triester of citric acid with stearyl alcohol (C18 fatty alcohol). Citric acid esters are well-known for their antioxidant properties and are used in cosmetics both as emollients and as antioxidants that protect cosmetic formulations from rancidity. The stearyl alcohol esterification renders the compound lipophilic and suitable for oil-phase incorporation. Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, tristearyl citrate is not listed in Annex II (banned) or Annex III (restricted). Citric acid and stearyl alcohol are both naturally occurring substances with excellent safety profiles, and their ester combination is considered safe at cosmetic use levels.
